The cherry powdery mildew model runs through three stages. First, growing degree days are calculated from bud break. If the second stage does not occur before a key degree day threshold is reached, the model shuts down for the year. Secondly, a specific amount of rainfall is needed during a period of 50F or above to trigger the third stage. If the rainfall event does occur, the third stage begins. At this point we use the Gubler-Thomas Powdery mildew model that is described in the table below for powdery mildew. To keep things simple, the Gubler-Thomas model is what is displayed once the specific rainfall event has occurred. |
